This breakfast cafe ranks number #1 because of its super close proximity to our caravan park, plus the vibe is something to behold. Staff do an incredible job at pumping out quality coffee from 6am while striking up a conversation about the surf, local events or how your day is going. Their daily muffins* are a must, as well as their Breakfast Surfers Wrap. Sit in the courtyard and watch the locals and weekend visitors roll in from a morning swim or surf.
“People would fly hallway across the globe for this” – I feel like I say this every time I visit. Before settling in for your early meal at Bunkers Beach House you MUST first walk the stretch of Bunker Bay beach and finish it off with a dip. Go here when the winds are westerly/southerly as Bunker Bay is on the other side of the cape, meaning glassy water when the rest of the coast is onshore. Grab a spot out on the deck and watch the waves lap the shore. Something as simple as scrambled eggs on toast tastes delicious here and their daily muffins are amazing as well…okay I think I might have a muffin obsession*.

Only open Saturdays and Sundays for breakfast this place is a real treat. With impressive art sculptures, a honey tasting station and chooks wandering around Barnyard provides a lovely setting for a brunch and is only a 2-minute drive away from Caves Caravan Park! After breaky, drive a few more minutes down the road and explore Canal Rocks. If you’re feeling adventurous park at Canal Rocks and walk to The Aquarium, a natural rock pool protected from the ocean but big enough to swim around, snorkel and check out the marine life. Ask the office for more information on how to get there.
Located in the heart of Dunsborough town it feels like an oasis here. With plenty of options on where to sit they can cater for big groups no problem. The place has a relaxed vibe where you feel you can take your time and read the paper or work on your laptop and not feel the burning eyes of ‘are you still here? time to move on’. Only downside is if you’ve come to work remotely, they don’t have wifi. Daily muffins are on point*. Afterwards wander the streets of Dunsborough and its many stores with the latest fashion, gifts and homewares.
Another ‘wow, how good is the location!’ moment to be had here. One step further off the café deck and you’d be rolling down the sand dune on to the beach. Overlooking a boat ramp, a secluded private nook of a beach and big waves way out the back you couldn’t ask for a better view to eat your eggs and sip your soy long mac half topped up. Although a 40minute drive from our caravan park, it’s a great excuse to start your adventure for the day down in Margaret River. Keep driving south and check out the giant trees at Borranup Forrest, visit the Margaret River Farmers Markets on a Saturday or sit at Margaret River Surfers Point and watch some of the best surfers around.
*It’s been established I am highly prone to a freshly baked muffin. Boxes that need to be ticked for me; a sign scribbled that morning with the flavour, the muffins still sitting in the cooking tray preferably with a tea towel underneath because they are still warm, and a crunchy top that has spilled out over the sides is ideal. Life is too short for a muffin that’s been cooked a few days ago from a kitchen off site somewhere. Nothing better than asking ‘are these muffins fresh today?’ and the person behind the counter replies ‘yep, just came out of the oven’. Jackpot! A great treat to takeaway with you after breakfast, ready for the days adventures…wherever you may end up in this beautiful pocket of WA.
